Thanksgiving - What Really Happened?

by Borden-Lombardi Realty 11/20/2024

A 3 day outdoor harvest feast in Plymouth, MA in 1621 began what we call Thanksgiving.  At this feast, the English settlers were outnumbered by the natives from the Wampanoag Tribe, who brought most of the food.  The menu included mostly venison (deer) and there were no mashed potatoes.

Today, there are 574 federally recognized Native American tribes, including the Wampanoag Tribe.

There was a fragile relationship between the natives and the settlers, with language difficulties.  Some say that the natives benefited from the English alliance because of trade and military, while the English settlers might not have survived without help from the Native Americans.
